Bhaktapur Gunhu Punhi, which lasts nine days, is one of the most popular Newar festivities.
On the first day, the Newar drink a soup called Kwati-Punhi, which is made up of spouted mixed Nine types cereals (mung, meat, soybean, small corn, masyang, gram, bean, bodi, and bakullo) are steeped for three to four days before sprouting. To form a thick soup, the beans are boiled with a variety of seasonings. . Doro(Janai), a defense string knotted on one’s hand, is given to everyone by the Brahmines. On this day, farmers distribute food for the frogs known as Byancha Yata Ja Nakegu.

The last day of Gunhu Punhi‘s life is Krishna Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu. In the interim, several dances are held in various parts of the valley.
