Prithvi Narayan Shah, the late king, built a fort to prepare for an attack on the Kathmandu valley. The Gadhi of Ranikot is the name given to that fort. This location is known as Ranikot because it once housed a late king’s cloak that was given to him by the queen. Ranikot Village walks, which start in Bhaktapur and end in Panauti, are offered by a few trekking companies.
Highlights
Ranikot is a major draw for a one-day village hike in the Kathmandu Valley.
