The practice of pulling the chariots of Ganesh, Bhairav, and Kumari during the reign of Jai Prakash Malla (1812-13 BS) has added to the excitement of Kathmandu’s Indrajatra festival, which has been celebrated since the Lichhavi period. On Bhadra Shukla Dwadashi, Indra Jatra is begun by bringing a 36-foot-long wooden Lingo from the Kavre district’s and standing in front of Hanumadhoka Basantapur Durbar at Kathmandu Durbar Square. The idols of Bhairav are brought out and adored in various locations throughout this eight-day procession. Yanya Jatra is the Nepali name for it.
On the day of Yanya Punhi, Bhaktapur also celebrates Indrajatra. To worship Ganesha in heaven, Indra‘s mother Basundhara needed a flower called Parijaat and a fruit (khais) named Kipa. Jayant was apprehended and imprisoned in the city plaza for stealing flowers and fruits from Lord Ganesha‘s temple. Because it is necessary and the flower can only be obtained in the mortal world, when he sent his son Jayant to the mortal world on the day of Yanyathava Chaturthi (Ganesh Chaturthi), he picked up the flower of Parijaat (some people also name it ‘Chatha: Swan’) without asking anyone. In Nepalbhasa, this is referred to as Yama:Dyo. On the eighth day of Chatha, Dwadashi, this procession takes place (the day of the Indradhojathan in Kathmandu). Yama:Dyo was given in this manner on wooden poles at the intersections of 24 toles roads in Bhaktapur at the time. Yama:Dyos mother (Indra’s wife Shachi) is said to be grieving because of the division of Yama:Dyo (Yanya Jhari). Dipawali is celebrated in Siddha Pokhari of Bhaktapur on Chaturdashi, and Indrajatra is celebrated in Kathmandu on the day of the full moon. Godness Indrayani from Khauma tole is carried to Siddha Pokhari in a khata with processions tomorrow. The Ranjitkars used to take lakhs and circumambulate Siddha Pokhari, as well as Indrayani’s khat.
However, Lakhe Nacha are now unable to continue. Devotees flock to Godness Indrayani on this day. Bhaktapur was divided into upper, central, and lower regions during the Malla period. Ya:Mata, Akashdeep (trident-shaped light) and Mupatra from Wakupati Narayan are carried from Sakolan in the higher region on Pratiparda . Your eyes will be sharpened if you stare at this Ya:mata,Akashdeep (trident-shaped light), and public trust will be maintained. The Mupatra Jatra takes place over the final three days of the eight-day processions .On the first day of the Jatra, Salla Ganesh of Bhaktapur city, on the second day Chuma Ganesh and on the third day Masaan Bhairav are accompanied by Mupatra Jatra. Mupatra is the most powerful monster king of this mortal world. While circling the city, Daityaraja strikes Yama:Dyo three times with a sword to punish Jayant. To commemorate the same thing, it is customary for a pilgrim to strike Lingo with a sword.
At that point, locals mocked loudly, “There are two other people on the left and right of Mupatra.” He is known as Dhi:Cha, and he is the enormous king’s assistant as known as Minister. The Mupatra Jatra is the primary attraction of Bhaktapur’s Indrajatra. From the Char-Dham Temple in Bhaktapur Durbar Square(Layaku), the second day’s processions ends at the Bhaktapur Durbar Square(Layaku).Ya:Mata, is carried from Golmadhi in Bhaktapur’s central area on this day. The procession begins at the Bhairav temple in Taumadhi and ends there on the third day. Ya:Mata is carried from Banshagopal in the lower section of Bhaktapur on this day. As a result, it is customary to only bring members of the Ya:Mata Manandhar community. Masaan Bhairav and Indra‘s pretext on this day is to send Airawat Elephant to fight Mupatra after a quarrel with Salla Ganesh and Chuma Ganesh, who were dispatched to retrieve Jayant.
During the city tour of Bhaktapur, the primary attraction is drinking water from the Talatunchi (dug well) at Taulachhen tole and igniting the fire at Dattatraya. This Pulukisi is likewise reported to be trampled to death if he finds the Mupatra. As a result, Mupatra and Pulikisi maintain their distance. Jayantha (Yama:Dyo ) is released on the same day, and the Indrajatra is ended by riding this elephant to heaven.
