A day after the Sa:Paru (Gai Jatra festival)., the Nil Barahi Naach, a traditional dance performed in a small Newari town Bode east of Kathmandu, begins.
The historical Nil Barahi Naach is held every year from Bhadra Krishna Paksha Ditiya to Panchami for three nights and four days in the Bode of Madhyapur Thimi in Bhaktapur district, which is rich in art and culture. This dance, which is performed using the traditional Tantric approach, features 19 Deities, including Bhairab-1, Barahi-4, Simah-4, Kumari 4, Dwarpal-2, and Ganesh-4.Aside from that, numerous Gurus, traditional musicians bands and others have been entrusted with various roles in order to administer this dance.
When we check at the historical facts of the Nil Barahi Naach, we can see that in 633 BS, King Suvarna Malla launched the Navadurga Naach in Bhaktapur, the Bhairab Naach (Bhaila Pyakha) in Madhyapur Thimi, and the Nil Barahi Naach counting in Bode to help ease in Nepal.
Although there are no documented records of when the Nil Barahi Naach began, residents say it was sometime in the 17th century. “We feel it was started by our forefathers to ensure the prosperity of our country,”. They believe it to be over 400 years old since they discovered seven courtyards belonging to various Dev Ganas (Groups/ Communities). “Each Gan has a central courtyard where the procession begins.
The Ganas are in charge of organizing the celebration. Around 100 people make up a Ganas, which includes gods, gurus, and people who play the instruments during the festival. “There are a total of 19 Gods with me, as well as a band of roughly 30 people,”.
If you look closely at the Rumour, Bode While doing agricultural labor in his field called Chulicha near Nil Barahiforest, it is believed that a Bode resident, a farmer from Dho Caste was carried to the Nil Barahi forest in the garb of Nil Barahi Lord himself. Remember Chulicha, the place where dance and dance techniques are taught.
